Inspiration

We don't have to age before our time. We may not be able to increase our natural lifespans, but we can increase our healthspans (the period of life in which we remain healthy and vigorous). The most famous example of an old man holding it together is the late Jack LaLanne, who is one of my heroes. He literally died at age 96 with weights in his hand.

Jack LaLanne is an example of someone who lived to an advanced age, yet, his healthspan still equaled his lifespan. Many other aged individuals will spend the last 10 to 15 years of life as frail and infirmed. Based on the example of Jack LaLanne and others, I firmly believe that a life of exercise that includes lifting heavy weights can substantially reduce the period of old age infirmity.

Here are two other men, not so well known as Jack LaLanne, but impressive, nonethless:

Finally, consider the thoughts of Dr. Charles Eugster, who explains the importance of truly living life as long as we are here:

Jack LaLanne

Living is a pain in the butt. Dying is easy. It's like an athletic event. You've got to train for it. You've got to eat right. You've got to exercise. Your health account, your bank account, they're the same thing. The more you put in, the more you can take out. Exercise is king and nutrition is queen: together, you have a kingdom.
